HYDERABAD: TDP politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu has demanded the Centre to introduce a Bill in the forthcoming Parliament session to provide 33 per cent reservations to backward classes in the elections to local bodies.In a press release here on Friday, Ramakrishnudu said the TDP government had adopted a resolution in this regard in the Assembly and sent it to the Central government.However, the present Congress government in the state has been citing Supreme Court verdict as a reason and trying to reduce the BC quota from 33 per cent to 24 per cent, he alleged. “If the state government is sincere it should bring pressure on the Centre and see that the Constitution is amended to provide 33 per cent reservations to BCs,” he said.Though the BC population has been increasing, the government has failed to increase the budget for welfare schemes of the BCs, he said and added that the government should also implement BC sub-plan. He also wanted funds to be sanctioned on the basis of BC population and an exclusive ministry for Backward Classes at the Centre.
