CHENNAI: Alleging that her father was illegally detained in the Chengalpet Special Camp meant for foreign nationals, an 18-year-old from Ongole in Andhra said she has been running from pillar to post to get him released. The teenager also alleged that the police personnel had sexually abused her.Shyamala told reporters on Monday that her father Karunahraj was taken into custody while they were in Chennai. “We were here to shop for my younger sister’s ear piercing ceremony on August 22 last year when my parents were arrested from a hotel room at Ekkatuthangal, where we were staying. At that time, the police kept on telling my father that he should not mess up with senior officials,” Shyamala said.According to advocate Sridhar, the arrest was made for Karunahraj’s alleged role in a job racket. The financier was later remanded in custody by the Judicial Magistrate Court VII in Coimbatore, said Sridhar.Later a prisoner-in-transit warrant was issued against Karunahraj in connection with a murder case.According to Sridhar, Karunahraj was later shifted to the Chengalpet Special Camp claiming he was a foreign national. A strictly confidential GO was issued by the Public Department to this effect on November 9.“Police claim Karunahraj is a Malaysian national, while the nominal roll from the Puzhal Prison specifies that he is Indian. He has been lodged in the prison in a foisted case and police foist new cases as and when bail is granted to him,” he said.
