Chennai: In a tragic incident, a 16-year-old boy while attempting to take a selfie on railway tracks in Chennai was run over by a speeding sub-urban train on Sunday evening.
The incident took place when Dinesh Kumar (the victim) was trying to take a selfie with a train as the backdrop.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Dinesh - while returning from Vandalur zoo - decided to take selfie with the train.
"They were walking along the railway track when the Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu electric train was passing by. The boy attempted to take selfie and fell too close to the tracks. Before he could do anything, Dinesh run over by the train," sources said.
The death of the youngster came a few weeks after a man and a girl drowned in the Arabian Sea in Mumbai. The man was trying to save the girl who had slipped into the sea while taking a selfie.
Then, concerned over rise in selfie deaths, the Mumbai police have marked several 'no-selfie zones' to prevent such incident in future.
