ARMOOR (NIZAMABAD): The thin attendance by farmers and the lukewarm response to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's sppech on the agrarian crisis at the threeday Rytu Deeksha by the YSR Congress chief have made Jagan's followers jumpy about the party's prospects in Telangana.
A large number of youths were also disappointed as Jagan did not refere to the separate Telangana demand. The threeday exercise by Jagan has thus failed to enthuse farmers as well as other sections of the people of the region."I have attended the meeting with a lot of expectations from Jagan. But he did not speak a word on Telangana. We have to show our strength to Andhra and Rayalaseema leaders in the 2014 elections," said B Mukesh, a B.Pharmacy student.
A tailor, Mohammad Qasim from Metpally, chipped in: "Perhaps, Jagan might have feared about a possible rout of his party in the other regions if he spoke any thing on Telangana.""Jagan has already made his stand clear on Telangana. He spoke with more clarity than N Chandrababu Naidu or N Kiran Kumar Reddy did. Some people wanted him to speak on Telangana in the hope that YSRC would be wiped out in the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions if Jagan agreed to bifurcation of the state," YSRC leader Bajireddy Govardhan Reddy said.Mahesh, an Intermediate student from Mustabad, who led a 20youth delegation, made a futile attempt to meet Jagan and seek his clarification on Telangana. "As Jagan was busy, I could not meet him," Mahesh said. YSRC leaders arranged transportation to Mahesh and others. A large number of youths were mobilised by cars and buses to the venue.Jagan admitted that his loyal MLAs, who supported the notrust motion, feared facing byelections. "The Congress has money and police power. That is making my loyal MLAs apprehensive of facing byelections," Jagan said.
