HYDERABAD: Tension is in the air once again with students from across Telangana converging on the Osmania University campus for an indefinite hunger strike beginning Monday.Adding fuel to fire, the Telangana Joint Action Committee activists, under the leadership of Prof M Kodandaram, are also planning a visit to the university. To pre-empt possible trouble, police have taken several students into preventive custody and intensified checking on the city outskirts to bar students from reaching the campus. The OU joint action committee (OUJAC), nonetheless, claimed that more than 300 students had entered the campus by Sunday morning. Its spokesperson P Kailash said no less than 1,000 students will take part in the hunger strike. However, the police insisted that they will not allow outsiders and cited a Supreme Court order that bars outsiders from organising programmes on the campus. The peace committee, constituted by the State government, also met this evening and appealed to the students and other stakeholders not to vitiate the atmosphere. In a related development, Speaker Nadendla Manohar said in Delhi that he would like to meet the 101  T legislators, who resigned,  “personally” before taking a call on their resignations. Manohar also said he would seek the opinion of constitutional and legal experts.  With the TDP and TJAC leaders pressing ahead with their protests, the T Congressmen have decided to meet Monday to chalk out their strategy.
