New Delhi: His muscles are palpable from under his snug-fitting khaki uniform. His walks with purpose, his face giving nothing away, his demeanour grim. The handlebar moustache and the aviator sunglasses add that extra rugged quality to his look. From the point of view of filmmaker Rohit Shetty, his hero, supercop Bajiro Singham is nothing short of an actual superhero.
'Singham Returns', the latest film that is well on its way to join the Rs 100 crore club revolves around this upright, moral, strong, funny, sexy police officer, who does not mind getting his hands dirty for a worthy cause.
With 'Singham Returns' following the whirlwind success of Salman Khan's 'Kick', one wonders what are the ingredients used for a proper, money-churning masala thriller.
One of the things that are common in all the Rs 100 crore films, is that the heroine or the female characters play only ornamental roles in the films.
Be it Sonakshi Sinha in the 'Dabangg' series, Daisy Shah in 'Jai Ho' or Katrina Kaif in 'Ek Tha Tiger' and even Kareena Kapoor to an extent, in 'Singham Returns' -- the women in these blockbusters have always played a second fiddle to these 'super' men.
Is it because the movie-goers are mainly men? Do they like to see characters worth idolising on the big screen? Do the women movie-goers like melodrama instead of action?
Because films that revolve around women do not have the kind of fan following and mass frenzy that a Dabangg or a Singham has. Films like 'Queen' or 'Bobby Jassos' are liked and watched by many, but their success is nothing compared to the fan following enjoyed by the 'bhai' or the other Khans.
Whatever the reason, the filmmakers seem to have found the perfect mix for a Rs 100-crore film.
