'They Sought Proof...': PM Modi Rakes Up 2016 Surgical Strike, Slams Congress In J-K Rally
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lashed out at the Congress for opposing the 2016 surgical strike against Pakistan and demanding proof for the same

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lashed out at the Congress for opposing the 2016 surgical strike against Pakistan and demanding proof for the same, an allegation that BJP has time and again raised to accuse the grand old party of disrespecting the sacrifices made by soldiers for the country.

Addressing an election rally in Jammu, PM Modi said, “The approach of Congress has always been negative. They opposed the surgical strike against Pakistan and even sought proof of the same. Congress is still speaking the Pakistan language.”

He accused the party of carrying a soft attitude against terrorism and said, “Remember that time when bullets were fired from that side and the Congress used to wave white flags? When the BJP government responded to the bullets with shells, the people on that side came to their senses.”

This Is New Bharat: PM Modi

Emphasising India’s growing defence ability and the government’s anti-terror stance, PM Modi recalled the 2016 surgical strike when the armed forces launched a widening strike against terrorist camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

“Today is 28th September. In the year 2016, on the night of 28th September, a surgical strike was carried out. India had told the world, ‘Yeh naya Bharat hai, yeh ghar mein ghuskar maarta hain…Aatank ke aakao ko pata hai agar kuch bhi himaakat ki toh Modi paataal mein bhi unhe khoj nikalega’…”

The Indian armed forces carried out the surgical strike in response to an attack by Pakistan-based terrorists on an army base in Kashmir’s Uri on September 18 in which 19 soldiers were killed.

Congress Never Respects Soldiers: PM Modi

He further accused the Congress of disrespecting the soldiers of the country. “Congress can never respect those who die for the country. It is the same Congress which made our army families yearn for ‘One Rank, One Pension’ for 4 decades. Congress lied to our soldiers.”

PM Modi’s heated remark came ahead of the third phase of the legislative assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Elections are being held in three phases in the territory.

The first phase of assembly polls was held on September 18 while the second phase of polling was held on September 25, in the six districts of Ganderbal, Budgam, Srinagar, and Jammu regions: Rajouri, Reasi, and Poonch. The third and final phase of polling is scheduled for October 1, while the counting of votes will take place on October 8.
