Jammu: Two self-styled commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit were killed in a gunfight overnight in Udhampur and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Two Special Police Officers (SPOs) were also killed by militants in hthe same area.
Security forces shot dead Hizb 'group commander' Kamar Din alias Sajjad on Monday while they were tracking down a militant who had escaped from Deval area of Udhampur district after a gunbattle on Sunday, officials said on Tuesday.
An AK assault rifle, four magazines, 90 rounds and 10 grenades were found on the Hizb 'group commander', they said.
With this killing, three top commanders of the outfit were killed in the area.
In another gunbattle, another Hizb 'tehsil commander', identified as Maqbool Hussain, was killed in Dessa belt of Doda district on Tuesday. An AK rifle, three magazines, seven grenades and 180 rounds, two wireless were sets recovered from him.
The body of another Hizb militant identified as Rehmatullah was recovered from Desa area of Doda district on Monday, they said.
Meanwhile, militants gunned down two SPOs on guard duty at the residence of social worker Shashi Kumar in Pindora village in Doda early on Tuesday.
A search operation had been launched to track militants who fled after the killings, officials said.
The bodies of SPOs Rishi Kumar and Ravinder Kumar were handed over to their families.
Security forces in separate operations hauled 6.5 kgs of explosives and an improvised explosive device (IED) from two militant hideouts in Doda and Rajouri districts.
BSF troops seized 1.5 kg of high explosives, two Chinese grenades, two AK magazines, 27 rounds of AK ammunition, seven detonators, cordex wire and fuse wire from a cave in Kharak forest in Rajouri district on Sunday.
Another hideout was busted late Sunday at Dareja in Bhaderwah block of Doda district where the police recovered 16 rounds of AK, five kg of explosives and an IED fitted in a utensil, sources said.
