Beijing: China has blocked many social networking websites on the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre.
But enterprising Twitterers and bloggers have found a way of getting around the great firewall.
Some of the links are on the unidentified tank man - the symbol of individual defiance against the Chinese army tanks that rolled out on the Square.
Curious students now know about his courage from the famous pictures from 1989.
One Twitterer identified as Freemoren is also posting updates of the events that happened 20 years back.
Associated Press reports that China has been aggressively deterring dissent in Beijing for Thursday 20th anniversary of the crackdown on democracy activists in Tiananmen Square.
But tens of thousands did turn out for a candlelight vigil in Hong Kong to mourn the hundreds, possibly thousands, of demonstrators killed.
Organisers estimated the crowd in Hong Kong at 150,000.
The crowd gathered in Victoria Park and sang "It is the dream of all Chinese people to have democracy!"
Hong Kong is a former British colony and retains its own legal system and open society since reverting to Chinese rule in 1997.
Those killed in the violence were eulogised as heroes of the push for democracy in China. Names were read aloud before the crowd observed a minute of silence in their memory.
One 17-year-old student says "It's time for China to take responsibility for the killings."
