CHENNAI: The Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department have arrested a 42-year-old man, who was absconding for the past 14 years, in connection with a fake stamp paper case on Thursday.Police said they arrested Kumar alias Anthony Kumar, a native of Odisha, near the Registrar’s office at Red Hills. He was wanted in a fake stamp paper case that was registered by the Counterfeit Currency Intelligence Wing of the CB-CID in 1998. The CB-CID had earlier arrested four persons — all document writers — the police said.Police sources said Kumar had escaped to Odisha after cops began a hunt for him and returned to the city after a long hiatus. Following a tip off, police kept an eye on his activities in the city for the past six months before making the arrest. “After he escaped, his wife had started stamp paper writing business in Red Hills and the family was entirely run by her when he was hiding,” said a police official.In 1998, the CB-CID registered a case following a complaint by Ramakrishnan of Avadi that `15,000 worth of stamp papers he had purchased from a writer Parthiban of Ambattur were found fake.Police initially arrested Parthiban after registering a case under various IPC Sections and also seized `15,000 and `7,000 worth fake stamp papers. Upon interrogating Parthiban, police chanced upon his associates Nagesh and Krishnan alias Krishnamurthy and, following their confessions, they arrested another writer Pandian.Body of Woman Found The body of a 32-year-old sanitary worker, Amulu, was found with injuries in her hut near Santhome on Friday.Police said the woman, who lived near the service lane at Santhome, was last seen talking to a man in front of it on Thursday night. The Mylapore police who registered a case added that her husband had gone out of town.Labourer MurderedA daily wage labourer, Kumar, was allegedly murdered during a drunken brawl at Kodungaiyur on Thursday night. Police said Kumar and his friend and fellow labourer Vinod were consuming liquor on Thursday night. An argument broke out between the two during which, Vinod stabbed Kumar.
