HYDERABAD: A day after apprehending two gold and diamond merchants carrying nearly 2.5 kilo of diamonds, Abids police on Tuesday caught another merchant from Maharashtra with nearly 2.46 kilo diamonds and jewellery flouting security guidelines and without proper documents.According to Central Zone DCP Akun Sabharwal, a special team of police were deployed at sensitive locations to conduct surprise checks to ensure that traders are complying with the security guidelines issued after the two jewellery theft cases. The team caught two traders on Monday while another trader, K Garodia of Sanskriti jewellers in Thane, Maharashtra was caught on Tuesday."The merchant was walking with nearly `1 crore worth jewellery and flouting security guidelines," Abids police inspector K Shiva Kumar said.Though the merchant could provide some documents related to the jewellery, police found they were not convincing and they were handed over to the Income Tax department for further action."No security guidelines were followed by the merchants in the two cases, They were carrying the valuables in cloth and rexine bags and walking in crowded areas with the costly jewellery," Sabharwal said.Police asked the merchants and traders to use a four-wheeler for safe transportation of the jewellery and also chain the bag containing the valuables to themselves as a safety measure.Police also insisted that the documents related to the valuables should be present with the merchants.
