HYDERABAD: Traffic violators should feel the pinch so that they do not repeatedly violate traffic rules. Believing in this, traffic police are likely to enhance the penal amount for violators. This would be done once the state government gives its nod to the traffic police.“A proposal to increase traffic fine amount under Motor Vehicle Act violations is pending with the government. We will pursue it to make our enforcement more effective,’’ Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic) C V Anand told reporters here on Thursday. At present, the minimum penal amount ranges from Rs 50 - Rs 200. “We want to enhance the fine above Rs 200. In fact, we want to increase the amount five times,’’ Anand said adding that a pinch only can refrain vehicle users from frequent violations.Anand said that violators are not caring to shell out Rs 100 as penal amount. “I have personally seen some throwing away money after getting penalised. They park their cars on roads and get away with a mere Rs 100 fine. The amount is almost equal to a parking fee,’’ Anand said.Anand added that the Centre was also mulling to make amendments to enhance traffic fine violations. “It is proposed that the fine amount be enhanced upto Rs 2,000 and like in Western countries, driving licences of frequent violators be cancelled,” the additional CP said.Asked whether such a move would give scope for corruption by policemen, Anand said proper supervision would be necessary to check them.He said that four new traffic police stations would come up at Jubilee Hills, Nallakunta, Marredpally and Toli Chowki-- in the city. “We are planning to create more traffic police stations including Narayanguda, Afzalgunj and Bahadurpura in the coming days to cope with the increased traffic and large jurisdictions,’’ he added.Police are also proposing to delegate powers to impose penalty to the assistant subinspector rank officers as well. Anand said 106 ASI posts were sanctioned for the city traffic police while 24 SIs were taken away from the wing.
