PUDUCHERRY: The Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Post Graduate Institute (IGGGHPGI) and the local administration department jointly organised a one-day training programme titled ‘Medical Certification of Cause of Death’, for medical officers and coders.Dr Dilip Kumar Baliga, director of health and family services, delivered the special address. Dr Gilbert Fernandez and Dr H Ranganath were resource persons for the training programme, attended by 60 medical officers and coders.Both Dr Gilbert and Dr Ranganath explained the methodology with regard to certifying the cause of death on account of various diseases, as per the guidelines issued by the office of the registrar general of India, with reference to the International Code of Diseases.Dr V Govindaraj, medical superintendent of IGGGHPGI, and S Venkateswara Rao, assistant director of census operations, spoke. A Balasubramaniam, director-cum-chief registrar of births and deaths, welcomed the gathering.
