Vice President Venkaiah Naidu Tests Positive for Coronavirus Infection, Currently Asymptomatic
The vice-president's wife, Usha Naidu, has tested negative and is in self-isolation.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, who underwent a routine COVID-19 test on Tuesday morning, has tested positive for the coronavirus infection. He has been advised home quarantine since he is asymptomatic and in good health, his office said in a statement.

The vice-president’s wife, Usha Naidu, has tested negative and is in self-isolation.

Naidu, also the Rajya Sabha Chairman, recently presided over the monsoon session of Parliament. The session, which started on September 14, concluded on September 23, eight days before the scheduled end as at least 25 lawmakers tested positive for coronavirus.

In the mandatory tests conducted before the beginning of the monsoon session, 17 MPs of Lok Sabha and nine of Rajya Sabha were found infected.

Political leaders, including Nitin Gadkari, N Chandrababu Naidu, Nirmala Sitharaman and Dharmendra Pradhan wished the vice president a speedy recovery.

Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman said, “My prayers for your complete and speedy recovery, @VPSecretariat, Shri. @MVenkaiahNaidu garu.”

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan prayed for Naidu’s good health as he joined the other leaders in wishing the vice president a speedy recovery.
