BANGALORE: In a rare gesture, the Railways has exhibited the paintings that were done in appreciation of the service rendered by Indian Railways, by six acclaimed artists. The paintings were done under the coordination of internationally acclaimed artist M S Murthy in the concourse area of the Bangalore City Railway Station on Thursday. The artists have donated the paintings worth lakhs of rupees to the Railways.Murthy said, “South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation approached me and requested me to do something for their movement ‘Safar’ that was initiated to encourage support and appreciation for art and railways. I coordinated with five other artists - K Chandranath Acharya, Jasu Rawal, M B Patil, S G Vasudev and V G Andani - and they agreed to contribute whatever they can. We would be more than satisfied if the people appreciate our art.” Rajya Sabha MP B Jayashree, who inaugurated the exhibition, specifically appreciated Murthy’s portrayal of Gandhiji stepping out of the train.
