New Delhi: CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat on Friday slammed BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitely for criticising the Left party's demands to allow Chinese companies to invest in infrastructure projects in India.
Referring to denial of security clearance for Vizhinjam port project in Kerala awarded to a consortium of Indian and Chinese companies, he said all the parties from the state including the BJP had opposed the cancellation.
"It is deplorable that the BJP leader makes charges that are not only untrue but also presents concocted facts. Jaitely should find out from the Kerala unit the actual facts before hurling the charges that the CPI-M is doing a PR job for a Chinese company," he said in a statement.
Criticising the CPI-M's demand, Jaitely had on Wednesday said, "It is the first time in India that a political party is using its arithmatic to do PR for the business of a particular company of a particular country."
Asserting that he see no reason for banning Chinese companies, Karat said, "Probably, Jaitely, given the BJP's ideological predilections for the US and Israel, sees foreign investment from other countries through saffron-tinted glasses."
"It is also unfortunate that Jaitley makes the baseless allegation that Chinese labour was to be brought in for the project. This is another fiction created by him," he added.
