BANGALORE: Governor H R Bhardwaj inaugurated ‘The Moon - A Scientific Story’, a new programme at Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in the city on Monday. The programme, a 40-minute audio-visual programme prepared by the Bangalore Association for Science Education, is the new attraction of the city based planetarium. Speaking on the occasion, former ISRO chairman U R Rao mentioned that the programme is inspired by the success of the Chandrayaan mission and focuses on explaining topics like the phases of the moon, tides and the experiences of the satellite Chandrayaan. Taking the example of Earth and Venus, he illustrated how different both planets are, even though they are so close together. “A few decades ago, we had not seen any planets. Today we have spotted more than 500 planets. How much technology has progressed!” he exclaimed adding that the next 20 years will see space missions by many more countries.  “We can colonize Mars,” he stated while elaborating that the process will not have to start from scratch as technology has already made much progress.“Science is a quest to understand nature. My philosophy is simple, I follow nature,” Governor Bhardwaj said during the event.  He, however, acknowledged that science today has given many comforts. Calling Bangalore a city of scientists, he expressed hope that science can help reverse the damage caused to the world by pollution. The planetarium will be open to the public from September 14 at 4:30pm.
