What more can make the King of Pop’s birthday special than having 50 MJ lovers on stage and performing his hits? Well, it wasn’t just 50 dancers, who celebrated MJ’s birth anniversary. For, MJ’s music got over 500 people, present at the Express Avenue Mall, to dance to his beats. The smoky red lights, a huge cut-out of MJ and the hum of over 500 fans changed the atrium of the empty mall into a raving dance party on Michael Jackson’s birth anniversary, August 29. Though the stage set-up was minimal, the non-stop energy on the floor couldn’t be stopped. The bulk of the audience was clearly there for MJ, to mark his birthday. Various dance schools and groups, with members in the age group of five to 35, from across the city including Fifth Element, RXD Dance Explosion, 18 Degrees and Strangers Crew, grooved to popular MJ hits. Rahul, an ardent MJ fan, walked down to boogie with the crowd. “It was MJs music that made me to participate in a dance reality show and along the way I got to travel to London, meet Dhoni and attend the T-20 world cup too,” he revealed excitedly. The backstage too was packed with action as dancers kept practising Jackson’s dance moves – from pelvic thrusts to his moonwalk. All his popular dance moves was appreciated with squeals of delight. “We are a nation of very closely knit and talented dancers. We have grown up dancing to MJ’s tunes and he is still remembered. Such shows have brought all the MJ fans across the state together and we are here to salute the King of Pop,” said Raghu, the owner of one of the dance companies. Great music was an excuse to get up and cut loose, and that exactly was seen on MJ’s birthday. The show was a testament to the fact that Michael Jackson’s music has withstood the test of time!
