A holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in multiple districts of Kerala for July 17 following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) red alert for heavy rainfall. The IMD has forecast intense rainfall over the state for the next 3-4 days.
The holiday has been declared in Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Kottayam districts of Kerala following the heavy rain warning.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, and Kannur districts. In its weather bulletin on Tuesday, the IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Kerala and Mahe during the next 5 days.
IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall In Maharashtra, Gujarat
The Met department has also forecast heavy showers in isolated places over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat State, and Karnataka for the next 3 to 4 days.
According to the IMD, extreme rain spells are likely to hit the Konkan and Goa regions on July 18 and 19. Heavy showers are expected to lash Madhya Maharashtra from July 18 to July 20, while Coastal Karnataka is set to witness heavy rains on July 17.
IMD has issued a red alert for Raigad and an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satar, and Kolhapur for today, July 17.
Uttarakhand On Orange Alert As IMD Forecasts Extreme Rainfall
The IMD has also forecast very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan on July 17 and 18. The Met department has issued an orange alert in Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand, forecasting extreme rainfall during the next 2 days.
Rainspell Likely In Delhi, Punjab And Uttar Pradesh
Rainfall will also likely lash Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and West Rajasthan during the next 5 days.
IMD has also issued a heavy rainfall alert for Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on July 19 and July 20.
