Why Govinda's comeback performance in 'Kill Dil' shouldn't be celebrated just yet
Govinda's fan base may have been different but his films always managed to bring in the moolah.

He had ruled the Box Office in the 1990s with his slapstick comedies. He may not be a Khan, but Govinda has always enjoyed the same amount of popularity like SRK and Salman. His fan base may have been different but his films always managed to bring in the moolah.

Having done formula films most part of his career, Govinda, like many others, did get typecast as a comic actor. Not many filmmakers took the risk of casting him in a serious role or in a negative role. So when Shaad Ali decided to cast him in a negative role in his film 'Kill Dil' there was enough curiosity to just see him on the screen playing a different role. While the film held a lot of promises, somewhere during the execution, Govinda's negative character got diluted a bit.

*There are spoilers in the story.

There is no doubt that Govinda is one of the best thing in the otherwise average film but in his first out-an-out negative avatar, Govinda leaves much to desire for. And it is not really his fault. The character is somehow not developed enough to make him look menacing.

In spite of a predictable plot, 'Kill Dil' does not have a dull moment and that primarily is because of Govinda and Ranveer Singh and their credible performance. But perhaps to please the younger generation, Ranveer is shown on the screen a lot more than the senior actor. Govinda makes do with whatever screen time he gets and plays the cool mafia gang lord with absolute ease.

Should we be celebrating his 'Kill Dil' performance and term it the best? Perhaps not. Because there is much more to the actor than his performance in 'Kill Dill'- those who have seen him in N.Chandra's thriller 'Shikari' would vouch for it. In two weeks' time, Govinda come back again on the big screen in 'Happy Ending' in a quirky film with Saif Ali Khan playing a character similar to his real life. Maybe then we can celebrate the actor Govinda once again; because 'Kill Dil' clearly makes you yearn for the talented superstar. Give him that chance filmmakers, he is bound to shine.
