Varanasi: In a bid to woo the voters ahead of polling on May 12, Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's held a rally in Rohaniya in Varanasi. Reaching out to the electorate, Modi said that he will not let the sacrifices of the people of Varanasi go waste.

Modi said that he believes in working on the agenda of development and assured the people that he will work for the upliftment of the weaving industry in Varanasi. "After I became CM of Gujarat, I worked to help poor Muslim kite makers of the state improve their manufacture process and now the industry has grown by leaps and bounds. The weaving industry here is well known, it just needs to be encouraged. It must be supported by proper designs and marketing if it is to develop and make itself known worldwide. I will restore the lost glory of Varanasi," he said.

He yet again trained guns at the Congress for giving remarks on his caste. "Do not make fun of my caste. I don't believe in divided India. I never played politics on the basis of the caste I was born in, because I believe in a united India," he said.

He also added that he had no intentions to waste time answering those who insulted and criticised him. "I just want to work for you," he said.

The rally was held even as massive protests were marked through the day by BJP leaders over denial of permission to Modi's rally in Varanasi.

BJP leaders took to the streets and held protest march to the Election Commission after Delhi Police imposed prohibitory orders around the poll panel's complex in Delhi in order to stop the march. BJP workers led by leaders Venkaiah Naidu, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Ravi Shankar Prasad took out a protest march from Delhi BJP office to the headquarters of the Election Commission.
