GANGAVATHI: Hema Venkatesh Handral, a housewife of Bagalkot, made it to the 78th Akhil Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to sell 118 books written by herself. Hema has succeeded in having a stall in the book exhibition here and even earned considerable amount.She had written books on woman-related subjects like mehendi, recipes, beauty and vastu.Prestigious publishers like Sapna Book House, PC Shabadimath, Navabharat Publications, MS Shabadimath, Vasan Publications, Ganesh Publications, TN Krishnaiah Shetty and Sons, Geethanjali Distributors and TNI Publications have published her books.Though she has got BCom and LLB degrees, she has written books on Ramayana, freedom fighters, stories for children, science experiments, mathematical formulae, home-made cures, pregnancy and care, basics of computers, Yogasana and much more.She has also released a large collection of stories related to Akbar and Birbal, and Tenali Rama. It should be noted that she has written books in English and Kannada.“As I had sufficient time after household works, I wanted to involve myself in some creative works, and I started writing for myself and for my friends.I received an offer from PC Shabadimath to write such books where I shared my feelings,” she said.Her husband Venkatesh, who is a businessman in Bagalkot, supported her passion for writing, and he tried to get a stall to sell her books in a prestigious event like the Sammelan.Hema has a website www.hemasgallery.com where she shares her thoughts.
