HYDERABAD: The world’s smallest gold coin (0.034 mg) minted in 1382 AD by the Vijayanagar dynasty now belongs to a city numismatist.  M Kesava Rao, coins and notes dealer in Hyderabad is collecting rare currencies for the past 30 years. His collection includes a 1 kg gold coin minted by Australia, Ashrafi gold coins of the Nizam period, de-monetised Rs 10,000 note of India, Rs 1 note issued by Chanchalguda press, among others. Speaking to mediamen on Wednesday, Kesava Rao said that he along with more than 85 other coins, notes and stamp dealers from all over the country will display their collection at a 3-day Hyderabad Coin and Notes Fair-2011, to be held in Federation House, Red Hills from Friday.“Numismatics and philately are not to be dismissed as an old man’s hobby. It is relevant even to the present generation as it helps gain knowledge about a particular country,” Kesava Rao said.The fair is being organised by the Hyderabad Philatelic and Hobbies Society.
