Doctor Slump, the medical Korean drama starring Park Hyung-sik and Park Shin-hye in the lead, premiered on January 27 this year. The romantic comedy with a medical perspective did not take much time to find a place in the hearts of the audience. The credit goes to stellar performances by Park Hyung-sik and Park Shin-hye and the interesting storyline of their lives. When the sixth Doctor Slump episode aired on February 11, viewers were taken by surprise when Lee Sung Kyung made a special cameo appearance. While the masses were gripped with excitement to watch Lee Sung Kyung’s role, they also dived deep to find the reason behind the actress’ inclusion in the series.
According to a report by Koreaboo, Doctor Slump director Oh Hyun-jong personally requested Lee Sung Kyung to feature in the show’s 6th instalment for a brief cameo role. The decision was taken because the actress previously worked with Park Hyung-sik and Park Shin-hye. While Lee Sung Kyung and Park Shin-hye starred in the 2016 K-drama Doctors, she worked with Park Hyung-sik for the dubbing of the 2016 animated movie Trolls.

As per a statement by Doctor Sump’s production team, “Once again, we would like to thank Lee Sung-kyung, who readily agreed to make a special appearance. Because she’d also worked with both Park Hyung Sik and Park Shin Hye before, she made the atmosphere on set even more fun and delightful." The statement added that Lee Sung-kyung will have a “powerful presence" in the show, different from the usual special appearances.
When Doctor Slump’s 6th episode was aired recently, the masses were overjoyed to witness their three beloves stars — Park Hyung-sik, Park Shin-hye, and Lee Sung Kyung on-screen. Online discussions suggested that Lee Sung-kyung was selected because she previously played the role of a cardiothoracic surgeon in the 2016 web series Dr Romantic. Additionally, she worked with Oh Hyun-jong in the drama show Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo.
Doctor Slump revolves around the lives of doctors Yeo Jeon-woo (Park Hyung-Sik) and Nam Ha-neul (Park Shin-hye). The academically brilliant individuals who were once arch-rivals at school stumble upon one another in a chance encounter. Their personal “worst slumps" are what binds the duo together as they begin a journey towards healing, finding solace in each other’s company. Lee Sung-kyung starred as Yeo Jeon-woo and Nam Ha-neul’s former high school classmate Han Wo-ri. She was also the ex-girlfriend of Yeo Jeon-woo.
