In a departure from tradition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate Dussehra in Lucknow instead of the national capital on Tuesday evening. Modi, who had earlier referred to this year’s Vijayadashami as a “special one” in the wake of cross-LoC surgical strikes, was expected to address the crowd at the city’s iconic Aishbagh Ramlila ground.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a gathering in Lucknow’s iconic Aishbagh Ramlila ground during his visit to the Uttar Pradesh capital to celebrate Dussehra.
It is the first time an incumbent prime minister stepped out of Delhi for the Dussehra celebrations. This departure from tradition comes at a time when his government is accused of politicising the Indian Army’s surgical strikes across the LoC.
Modi had earlier referred to this year’s Vijayadashami as a “special one”. Opposition parties have called the visit an election stunt ahead of state assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.
