Aamir Khan is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, where he will reportedly reunite with his Taare Zameen Par co-star, Darsheel Safary. Recently, Aamir Khan revealed that he nearly turned down the film because he had once considered quitting acting. He also shared that after the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, his children, Ira and Junaid Khan, were instrumental in persuading him to continue his career in the industry.
During a chat with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast Chapter 2 on YouTube, Aamir Khan admitted that Laal Singh Chaddha didn’t work out and took responsibility for it. The superstar then spoke about how he focused on improving himself and approached Sitaare Zameen Par with a positive mindset.
Aamir said, “Jab maine Sitaare Zameen Par shuru ki toh ki us mood mein kiya ki koi baat nahi…aur Sitaare abhi complete ho gayi hai. Sitaare mein bohat mazaa aaya kaam karke. Bahot kamaal ki film hai (Sitaare Zameen Par is now complete. I loved working on the film. It’s a great movie).”
However, Aamir also revealed that he nearly quit acting before beginning work on Sitaare Zameen Par. The actor shared that he had planned to inform the film’s director, R.S. Prasanna about his decision to step away from Bollywood and that they would need to cast another actor. Aamir further recalled calling R.S. Prasanna at 3 PM at his home, but before that, he spoke to his children Ira Khan and Junaid Khan about it.
During their discussion, Ira created a chart on a whiteboard to help Aamir Khan plan how to invest his time moving forward. While Aamir expressed his wish to spend more time with his children, Ira and Junaid felt he had already spent ample time with them. Aamir recalled Junaid calling him a “pendulum” and advising him to find a balance. Both Junaid and Ira encouraged him not to quit acting, arguing that leaving the industry would be a mistake.
Directed by R.S. Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is based on the Spanish film, Champions (2018) and features Aamir Khan alongside Genelia Deshmukh and Darsheel Safary. The film is set to release in cinemas on December 25.
