New Delhi: In spite of being in the film industry for more than four decades, superstar Amitabh Bachchan refuses to slow down. Having won accolades, awards and adulation for his work, the actor still believes there is much to learn from the younger generation.
During his visit to the capital to promote his upcoming film 'Shamitabh', Bachchan spoke to IBNLive and stated that even though there has been change in the way cinema is made now, they are positive and needed.
"It's been 45 years and almost over four decades for me in this film industry. Yes there has been a lot of change. Life changes, country changes, society changes, generations change so it is quite obvious that some of the changes will reflect in cinema as well," said Mr Bachchan. The actor admitted that "things were calmer" when he joined the film industry in the mid '60s. "I mean, we used to take long to express our love to the leading lady and now it takes few seconds to woo a girl," laughed the senior actor.
"People are now more impatient to get on with the job rather than allow it to settle down is the kind of temperament we were used to back then. That's what has changed. But technically we are lot faster now, more in knowledge about what is happening in the rest of the world now," said the actor and added, "I think it is a huge competition for us in cinema because perhaps you can watch something more technically advanced through another TV channel at your home than spend a large amount of money in a theater watching something not so technically good."
The actor gave credit to the audience and younger generation for pushing the film industry to do better. "Audience's taste has changed and that's largely due to younger generation and we want to cater to that and hence the technical changes have taken place. Must give compliment to today's generation and the audience because they have provoked us to do constructive stories, present stories in different ways"
The actor who is working with R Balki for the third time in 'Shamitabh' with two actors from Tamil industry- Dhanush and Akshaara Haasan, said he is happy playing cameo roles in regional cinema and not keen on taking up full fledged roles in other regional film industries.
The humble superstar refuses to acknowledge that film roles are written keeping him in mind, even now. "At 73, what enigma will you want to create? I'd say old age leads to me playing a doctor, a cop, a grandfather- I can't be romancing a heroine at this age."
The actor plays a "wasted old man" in Balki's 'Shamitabh' who dubs for Dhanush's character in the film. Complementing Dhanush, the superstar said, "Dhanush has not trying to interpret me as far as my voice is concerned. As an actor, he brought in his own interpretation. He has only mouthed the words that have been spoken by me in the film. I think to his credit he has not tried to behave like my voice, he has just incorporated it in his own style."
