Bhumi Pednekar’s latest film, Bhakshak, has been released on Netflix today. The actress has been actively promoting the film, leaving no stone unturned to ensure that it is a hit. During one of her promotional interviews, she was asked about her former co-star Akshay Kumar and how he reads his lines from cue cards. However, Bhumi revealed that while Akshay has cue cards ready, the actor also remembers his lines.
Speaking to The Lallantop, Bhumi said, “Akshay sir actually memorises his lines. I asked him, ‘Why do you have this?’ He said, ‘So that I am in the moment’. So I was like, maybe it is his process.” When asked if a person is holding a board behind the camera, Bhumi said, “Somewhere there will be (a person), you will not even realise it. But the thing is that he knows his lines because he has done the lines with me before. So I don’t know his process… it is his own process.”
Bhumi added, “I think maybe he feels some kind of security… this is a talent that everyone cannot have.” Bhumi recalled that Akshay told her “that even Marlon Brando used to do it”. Bhumi then said that she also gave Akshay’s method a try. She said, “I tried it once, that is also an art… There was a very long monologue in Durgamati. I couldn’t do it. It’s impossible. I don’t know how he does it.” The actress revealed that contrary to Akshay’s method, she memorizes her lines by writing them down constantly.
As for Bhakshak, the film has received decent reviews. News18’s review of the film read, “Bhumi Pednekar is fantastic as a journalist in a decrepit Bihar town. As Vaishali Singh, married for six years, she is under pressure from her sister and brother-in-law to have a child. Her husband is easygoing and lets his wife work, a journalistic passion that translates into breaking stories about society’s underbelly.”
