Rajinikanth’s upcoming film with Lokesh Kanagaraj is titled Coolie. The makers announced the film’s title on Monday, April 22. The film was tentatively called Thalaivar 171. Today, the makers dropped the title teaser, showcasing Rajinikanth as a coolie who beats up a gang of gold smugglers.
The video begins with several gold smugglers checking on their inventory of bars, watches, jewellery and other items. Soon, Rajinikanth breaks into their lair and thrashes them using a chain made of gold watches. The title has gone viral all over social media. Have a look here:
It was reported earlier that speculation suggests that Rajinikanth will portray a character with negative traits, possibly a gold-robbing gangster. Tentatively titled Thalaivar 171 and now called Coolie, the film’s production is currently underway with Sun Pictures backing the project. Anirudh Ravichander, a frequent collaborator of Lokesh Kanagaraj, has been enlisted to compose the music.
Lokesh Kanagaraj has been consistently delivering hit films, propelling his career to new heights. With five successful feature films under his belt, the director’s trajectory is on a rapid ascent, garnering both critical acclaim and commercial success. Recently, Kanagaraj has gained recognition for crafting movies within a shared universe known as the Lokesh Kanagaraj Universe. Despite the theories, Lokesh had previously clarified that the film will be a standalone project and not part of his larger cinematic universe (LCU).
There were reports that Rajinikanth has charged a whopping Rs 250+ crore for this film. Another report published in the Koimoi portal has indicated that the Jailer actor has charged Rs 260-280 crore for Thalaivar 171. Nothing has been officially confirmed regarding this news as of now. If the rumours are true, then, Rajinikanth has created history as this amount reportedly makes him the highest-paid actor in Asia. Thalaivar 171 also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Ranveer Singh and Parvathy Thiruvothu in key roles.
