52 years ago, Bollywood lost its tragedy queen, Meena Kumari. The whole world is aware of her immense stardom and her eventual tragic end, which makes anyone tremble, even today. Reportedly, the actress had some heartbreaking words to share in her last days, revealed by her stepson.
Meena Kumari gave Bollywood some of its most memorable films and characters in her career. Even though she was regarded as one of the biggest names in the Indian film industry, her personal life was marked with tragedy, making her suffer till the end.
The actress married director Kamal Amrohi when she was 19. Amrohi, at that time, was already married with three children and was twice her age. As per the reports, their marriage was not a happy one, as the two had vastly different opinions which became an obstacle.
As per more reports, the actress’s stepson Tajdar Amrohi talked about her relationship with his father in an interview with Filmfare in 2015. He revealed that Meena Kumari had separated from his father Kamal Amrohi after eight months of their marriage. He used to call her “chhoti ammi.”
Talking about the circumstances of their marriage, Tajdar stated that the actress had left her home for his father. He said, “Baba did not want to remain a sinner. Therefore, a Qazi was arranged and the marriage took place on the same night in 1952.” But he put certain conditions on her, according to which she could not sign new films, she was prohibited from wearing revealing attires, she had to be home by six and refused any lift from her co-actors. Meena Kumar accepted all these conditions at that time.
When her pending films were about to complete, she told him she could not do everything he asked, which led to a disagreement between the two. Over the years, their relationship soured and they eventually divorced in 1964. When her stepson Tajdar returned from his studies, he found her crying. According to him, she was curing herself and the film industry, regretting making mistakes, saying God will never forgive those who wronged her.
