Iron Man actor Gwyneth Paltrow reacted to Robert Downey Jr returning to MCU. Over the weekend, Marvel Studios announced RDJ is making his MCU comeback. The actor, who long played the role of Iron Man aka Tony Stark, will be seen playing the role of Doctor Doom. Downey Jr has signed two Marvel movies — Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. While fans are divided over his return, Gwyneth Paltrow seems confused by it.
Taking to the comments section of Robert Downey Jr’s post announcing his Doctor Doom casting, Gwyneth said, “I don’t get it, are you a baddie now?” Check out her comment below:
Gwyneth played Pepper Potts in the foundation years of Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was paired opposite Tony Stark aka Iron Man and appeared in several MCU films. These include the three Iron Man movies, and the Avengers movies. Gwyneth had bid farewell to the MCU after Iron Man died in Avengers: Endgame. With RDJ making a comeback, it is to see if Gwyneth also has a door opening for her possible return to the franchise.
At the Marvel panel of the San Diego Comic-Con, Anthony Russo announced that they had to get one of the best actors to play the role of Doctor Doom. “If we’re going to bring Doctor Doom to the screen — he is one of the most complex characters, most entertaining characters in all of fiction,” Anthony Russo said, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. “If we’re going to do this … then we are going to need the greatest actor in the world.”
“As proof of the unimaginable possibilities of the Marvel Universe, we give you the one person who could play Victor von Doom…” he added before RDJ took centre stage and unveiled himself as Doctor Doom.
Robert Downey Jr will be seen playing Doctor Doom in two Avengers films — Avengers: Doomsday, set to release in May 2026, and will seemingly reprise his role for Avengers: Secret Wars, eyeing a May 2027 release.
