Jatin Sarna, Who Portrays Yashpal Sharma in 83 Movie, Pens Emotional Tribute to Late Cricketer
Actor Jatin Sarna, who has played Yashpal Sharma's role in Kabir Khan's yet-to-be-released 83 film, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late cricketer.

India’s 1983 World Cup hero Yashpal Sharma died on Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest in New Delhi. He was 66 and is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Actor Jatin Sarna, who is all set to portray Yashpal Sharma in the Kabir Khan sports drama 83, has posted a moving tribute to the late cricketer on his Instagram account. Sharing a bunch of behind-the-scenes pictures from 83, Jatin wrote, “This is not done sir, no not fair and god you too not fair. Yashpal sir, can’t believe, you can not leave so soon." (sic). Jatin shared how he was excited to see the film with Sharma and looking forward to seeing the former cricketer’s “expressions."

In his international career, Yashpal played 37 Tests, scoring 1606 runs, and 42 ODIs in which he scored 883. He was known for his gutsy attitude and his stroke-filled half-century in the semifinal against England in the 1983 campaign at Old Trafford will forever be etched in the public memory. He was also a national selector during the early part of 2000.

Meanwhile, Kabir Khan’s 83 is based on India’s iconic win at the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The movie stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, who led the Team India in the Cricket World Cup against West Indies in 1983. In April 2019, the 83 cast members commenced training at a special cricket camp set up by the filmmakers in Dharamshala at the Dharamshala Cricket Stadium. The training was led by former cricketers Balwinder Sandhu, Yashpal Sharma and Kapil Dev. Apart from Ranveer and Jatin, the film features Amy Virk as Balwinder Sandhu, Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani, Chirag Patil as Sandeep Patil, Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Hardy Sandhu as Madan Lal, R Badree as Sunil Valson, Addinath Kothare as Dilip Vengsarkar, Dhairya Karwa as Ravi Shastri and Nishant Dahiya as Roger Binny.
