Kalki 2898 AD: Nag Ashwin Takes A Dig At Prabhas' Adipurush, Says 'Won't Ask To Leave Seat For Ashwatthama'
Director Nag Ashwin said that content of his film, Kalki 2898 AD, will speak for itself.

After the debacle of Adipurush, Prabhas is currently basking in the success of Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin. The film was released late last month and has shattered several records at the box office. Now, netizens think Nag Ashwin has taken a dig at the makers of Adipurush.

“I won’t ask theatre owners to leave one seat for Ashwatthama for promotions, my content will speak for itself,” ETV Bharat quoted the director as saying. After Adipurush was released, makers urged theatres to leave one seat vacant for Hanuman. However, the promotional tactics didn’t work for the film and it underperformed at the box office.

Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD has emerged as one of the biggest films of 2024. The Telugu film, which stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, has earned a whopping Rs 700 crore worldwide in just one week. Kalki 2898 AD’s production house, Vyjayanthi Movies confirmed that the film has surpassed the Rs 700 Cr mark in the film’s opening week.

Recently, Nag Ashwin took to his X handle to cheer for Prabhas and lauded his performance and presence of mind in making the film a success. The tweet dedicated to him read, “This man sitting casually there is the reason for all this, unbiasedly the biggest box office star of this era… He gave our production the confidence to do what we did, he gave me the freedom to do what I did… and so many intelligent inputs helped guide the film to what it is… everyone’s darling, our Bhairava and now the world’s K____.”

Kalki 2898 AD is expected to show growth this weekend as well. With the film having no competition in the Telugu industry and facing only Karan Johar-Guneet Monga’s Kill in Hindi, it is likely that the film will lure in audiences this weekend as well.

The film heavily draws inspiration from Mahabharat. The film is set in a dystopian future and revolves around four people — a pregnant woman named Sumathi (Deepika Padukone), who is said to be carrying a child that is the 10th avatar of Vishnu; the immortal Ashwatthama (played by Amitabh Bachchan) who has been tasked to protect the unborn child; a ruthless villain named Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan), who wants the child dead for he knows the child will be the end of the baddie; and Bhairava (Prabhas), a bounty hunter who would sell anyone in return of money.
