Kamal Haasan and Shankar’s Indian 2 (Bharateeyudu 2), released on July 12, received an underwhelming response from the audience. The film, despite the not-so-encouraging word of mouth, collected about Rs 58 crore globally.
As per the reports, the film has been trimmed by 20 minutes after hearing the responses from critics and movie lovers. The trimmed version of the film is running in theatres starting July 14. Earlier, the run time of the film was three hours and four minutes.
The film is also set to release on the digital platform soon. The digital rights to the film have been acquired by Netflix. The makers of Indian 2 have not confirmed the official date of the OTT release yet. Furthermore, it is also reported that the satellite rights to the film are with Kalaignar TV.
The Telugu version of the film witnessed a robust opening and earned an exceptional collection. According to Sacnilk, Indian 2 brought in a total of Rs 17 crore from the Tamil version. It also had an overall 55 per cent occupancy, with the majority for night shows. Meanwhile, the film has excellent openings in Telugu. The film earned a collection of up to Rs 8 crore on its first day. On the second day, the film garnered Rs 2.5 crore nett in India in the Telugu version and Rs 13 crore in the Tamil version.
Directed by Shankar, Indian 2 is the sequel to the 1996 hit film Indian. The film was released in theatres on July 12. It stars Kamal Haasan, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh and Priya Bhavani Shankar. The film is produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies, while the music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film was made on a reported budget of Rs 150 crore. Indian 2 will also be followed by the upcoming film Indian 3.
