Mahashivratri To Witness A Colossal Clash At The Kannada Box Office

It has become a common practice for films to be released on festive occasions, coinciding with the celebrations and festive mood. It often leads to multiple films being released on the same date, each taking on the other. On the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, there is a clash to take place at the box office between two notable Kannada films. Yogaraj Bhat’s Karataka Damanaka, featuring Shiva Rajkumar and Prabhu Deva, is going head-to-head with Ranganayaka – the reunion of veteran actor Jaggesh and director Guruprasad after a 15-year hiatus.

Karataka Damanaka represents the first collaboration between director Yogaraj Bhat and superstar Shiva Rajkumar. Prabhu Deva, known for his roles in Kannada films like H20 and 123, is making a comeback to Kannada cinema after an extended absence. The leading actors are slated to portray con artists in the movie, with V Harikrishna as the music composer and Rockline Venkatesh as the producer.

Ranganayaka, produced by A R Vikhyath under the Vikhyath Chitra Productions banner, marks the third collaboration between director Guruprasad and actor Jaggesh. The previous ventures of this satirical comedy duo, Eddelu Manjunatha and Mata, enjoyed considerable success. Notably, Ranganayaka’s production started before the onset of the pandemic and was extensively delayed because of it. While Karataka Damanaka and Ranganayaka were released on March 8, another Kannada film was released one day before, on March 7.

Vijay Raghavendra starrer Jog 101 was released a day before Mahashivratri and might give tough competition to the two Mahashivratri releases. Vijay Raghavendra, who last appeared in the highly praised thriller Case of Kondana, is back with yet another suspenseful film. This time, he is a photographer searching for information regarding the unsolved disappearances at Jog Falls, where several individuals go missing every year and are presumed dead. In addition to Tejaswini Shekhar, Rajesh Nataranga, Tilak Shekar and Kaddipudi Chandru being part of the cast, the film is directed by Vijay Kannadiga.
