Priyanka Chopra Told 'She Is a Bad Actor', Recalls 'Big Brother' Director: 'Sunny Deol & I Decided...'
Director Guddu Dhanoa shares how Priyanka Chopra, once considered a poor actress during her debut film, overcame criticism and received unwavering support from Sunny Deol.

Before achieving Bollywood stardom and subsequent global fame, Priyanka Chopra faced significant challenges in her movie career. Director Guddu Dhanoa, who worked with her in “Big Brother” and “Kismat,” recently shared insights into her rocky start in the film industry.

Dhanoa revealed that Priyanka’s initial foray into acting was fraught with difficulties. During the shooting of her supposed debut film, “Big Brother,” in Hyderabad in 2002-2003, Priyanka was eager to learn and often sought guidance on how to perform her scenes. “She would say, ‘Please explain to me, how do I do it.’ It means she had a hunger to learn. She wanted to do it well, and her looks were also good,” Dhanoa recounted in an interview with Bollywood Hungama.

Despite her determination, negative feedback started pouring in from Mumbai after just 15-20 days of shooting. Reports criticised her acting skills and screen presence, leading to doubts about her casting for the role. “We started getting reports from Mumbai that she looks very bad, she is a very bad actor, please watch the rushes,” Dhanoa recalled.

Amid the growing criticism, actor and producer Sunny Deol remained steadfast in his support for Priyanka. Dhanoa and Deol reviewed the rushes of the footage they had shot and decided to continue with Priyanka. “Sunny Deol and I, both of us decided that we will work with this girl and complete the film with this girl only. We liked her screen presence and as an actor. We thought she will grow, and we were right,” Dhanoa explained.

Priyanka’s perseverance and the support from her director and producer paid off. She not only completed the film but also went on to significantly improve her acting skills. Dhanoa fondly remembered being invited to her wedding reception in Mumbai.

“Today, she has improved tremendously as an actor. She grew very quickly, and she is fantastic,” Dhanoa said.
