Punjabi singer and actress Sunanda Sharma, known for her songs like Mummy Nu Pasand and Chandigarh ka Chhokra, walked the red carpet at the 77th Cannes Film Festival 2024. She wore a white ivory anarkali suit with a matching dupatta and looked gorgeous. Her ensemble features a heavily layered but plain top with full sleeves, a dupatta with detailed embroidery work, which she draped across her body, and dhoti-style pants. She completed her look with a maang tikka and a nose ring. Sharing the pictures, she said, “It is an honour to represent our culture and roots at the Cannes Film Festival. Being here is not just an individual achievement, but a victory for the entire Punjabi community. I hope this moment inspires others to embrace their heritage and celebrate with pride”. In an interview with a media portal, Sunanda Sharma said that she wanted to showcase the simplicity and beauty of Punjabi women on the global stage. “I didn’t make any extra effort to create this look. This is how I, or any Punjabi woman, dress up for a special event. I never aimed for artificiality or to portray someone I’m not in real life,” said Sharma.
Sunanda Sharma made her singing debut with Billi Akh in 2016. Her 2017 release Patake rose her to stardom. Alongside her singing career, she also made her acting debut with the 2018 film Sajjan Singh Rangroot alongside Diljit Dosanjh and Yograj Singh. She made her Bollywood career with the song Tere Naal Nachna. Then, she sang the song Poster Lagwa Do for Kartik Aaryan’s Luka Chuppi and Mummy Nu Pasand for the film Jai Mummy Di.
