The Jailer actor also revealed that Kamal Haasan helped him with the filming of Mani Ratnam’s directorial.

Rajinikanth is one of the biggest superstars in the Indian film industry. The superstar has had an illustrious career and has been a part of several hits. One of his iconic films, Thalapathi, released in 1991, was a commercial hit at the box office. But do you know that he struggled to act in the film? The Jailer actor also revealed that Kamal Haasan helped him with the filming of Mani Ratnam’s directorial.

Speaking at an event in 2022, the actor recalled his experience on the sets of Thalapathi and the challenges he faced while working. He said that his first scene was with Shobana, who was a complete bully at that time. “It was tough to act in the film. As an actor, I had a set of stock expressions. For love, I had some and similarly some for basic emotions. Mani didn’t accept any. I remember him telling me how to feel. I asked what I should feel,” he said.

The actor then said that he called Kamal Haasan, who helped him perform better in the film. “I then called Kamal and said it’s tough to act with this guy (Mani Ratnam). Kamal said, ‘I knew this would happen’. He suggested that I ask Mani to act and just copy him. That call worked. Thanks, Kamal,” he added.

Written by Mani Ratnam and Umesh Sharma, Thalapathi stars Rajinikanth, Mammootty, and Shobana in pivotal roles. It also stars Arvind Swamy, Srividya, Bhanupriya, Amrish Puri, and Charlie, among others. The music director of the gangster drama film is Ilaiyaraaja.

Meanwhile, both the actors, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, are gearing up for some exciting projects on the work front. Rajinikanth will be next seen in the much-awaited upcoming film Vettaiyan. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, it also features Fahadh Faasil, Amitabh Bachchan, and Manju Warrier in important roles. The film will hit the theatres on October 14. Haasan last appeared in the film Indian 2 and will be next seen in Thug Life.
