The family of superstar Rajinikanth has indicated they strongly back his expected entry into Tamil Nadu politics.

"Whatever my father decides to do we will support him," Rajinikanth's younger daughter Soundarya said in an exclusive interaction with News18. "He's a person of the masses, he's always been that, no doubt about that."

Soundarya did not divulge any details on when the big day would be or which party on which side he would be on. Three political parties- DMK, BJP and AIADMK - are keen on having him on their side.

The Thalaivar's son-in-law, prominent actor Dhanush, excused himself from commenting on Rajinikanth's plans. "He knows what is best and like all of you even I'm waiting," he said.

In a state where some of the most high-profile chief ministers MG Ramachandran, J Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi - came from the world of cinema, Rajini's plunge into politics is a highly awaited event.

Though Rajinikanth's plans on entering politics have remained nothing more than strong hints, another superstar in the state, Kamal Haasan, has made more overt moves of getting into politics. Dhanush and Soundarya refused to comment on Haasan's move.

Dhanush was in Delhi to promote his latest film VIP 2 , which also stars Kajol alongside him. Directed by Soundarya, the film will be released in Hindi as Lalkar on July 28.
