Three days after veteran actor Mohan Babu’s secretary filed a complaint of theft with Pahadishareef police, the accused was arrested from Tirupati. The theft took place on September 22 in Jalpally village in the servants’ quarters of Mohan Babu’s house. The accused has been identified as Vadithe Ganesh Naik, 24, who works as an office clerk.
According to police, the actor’s secretary arrived from Tirupati with Rs 10 lakh cash and placed it in his room in the servants’ quarters. When the complainant noticed the money missing, he informed the police. The police checked the video footage in which the accused was seen moving suspiciously and leaving the house late at night.
Pahadishareef police formed teams and collected the technical evidence which led them to Tirupati. Police arrested Naik on Wednesday. He was booked under Section 306 of the BNS and remanded in custody the same day. Police seized cash of Rs 7.3 lakh and a mobile phone from the accused.
Mohan Babu started his film career as an assistant director in 1970. After that, he entertained the Telugu audience as a character artist, comedian, hero and villain. In 1995, he received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor- Telugu for his work in the multi-starrer film Pedarayudu, which also starred Rajinikanth. In 2007, he received the CineMAA Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Yamadonga.
Besides, Mohan Babu received an honorary doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley for his contribution to the field of cinema and education. He is the co-owner of production companies such as Sree Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures, 24 Frames Factory and Manchu Entertainment. In 2017, he was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award- South. In 2017, he received the Special Appreciation Award for “forty years in cinema” at the 6th South Indian International Movie Awards.
