Siddhant stated that the public should be aware of the sacrifices made by Sandeep’s family.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga is touted as one of the most controversial filmmakers in Bollywood. His latest film Animal may be raking in the moolah at the box office, but it has been severely criticised by a sizeable portion of the audience for its perceived misogyny and portrayal of toxic masculinity. Animal has polarised critics as well, with the performances of the cast being praised. The regressive tone in the film has been called out. It is noteworthy here that Sandeep’s first film Arjun Reddy faced the same allegations of depiction of toxic masculinity, as did its Hindi remake Kabir Singh. Despite his films receiving criticism, all three films he has made have been hits at the box office. Recently, actor Siddhant Karnick spoke candidly about Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s life struggles.

Siddhant stated that the public should be aware of the sacrifices made by Sandeep’s family, who sold their 36-acre estate to finance the director’s first feature film. Siddhant Karnick, who was seen in a supporting role in Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal, said that many people questioned Sandeep’s insensitivity, but very few people knew about his struggle.

According to him, during his early days, when he was not getting any offers to direct films, Sandeep formed a small production company with his friends; but before their maiden venture could even take off, the financier backed out. He was short Rs 1.6 crore. Sandeep’s family came together and provided funds by selling their ancestral land spread over 36 acres.

With his family’s assistance, Sandeep made his debut film, Arjun Reddy. The movie was a success, grossing about Rs 51 crore worldwide. Then, Sandeep Reddy Vanga remade his first movie, Arjun Reddy, as Kabir Singh, which ended up being one of Shahid Kapoor’s best works till date. The movie, which cost Rs 55 crore to make, brought in Rs 377 crore at the box office worldwide. Siddhant said that while it is okay to judge one’s work, it is also important to look at the person’s struggle to create the art.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga will soon be directing a film with Prabhas named Spirit.
