Mithun Chakraborty, who began his journey in the entertainment industry with the 1976 film Mrigayaa, has made his mark in Hindi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Odia, Telugu and Tamil films as well. Although he received many awards during his illustrious career, it seems like Mithun Da’s dedication is finally getting recognised after it has recently been announced that the veteran star will be honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contributions in Indian films. Soon after the news circulated online, celebrated actor Shatrughan Sinha was among the first to congratulate the Disco Dancer star. Speaking with IANS, Shatrughan feels proud that his dear friend is receiving the honour he deserves.
The Kaala Patthar actor said, “I felt very good, and someone said that Mithun Da getting the Dadasaheb Phalke Award is neither a coincidence nor an experiment. In fact, in the right sense, it is a gift from God that Mithun Da got the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, this is the biggest award in the cinema industry and what I say about Mithun, I respect him a lot, he is very close. We have been students of FTII, and he was a junior to us, but I would like to say that despite being a junior, his first film came out, I think it was Mrigya, a film made by Mrinal Sen ji and he did a very good job in it.”
“Looking at that film, it could have been said that the future of this film is very bright, Mithun will do very well and it was also shown that when he came with a good director, he came with a very good director, he came with a fun director, so he did very well but in the rest of the films, he has left his mark to some extent,” Shatrughan Sinha added.
The veteran star further pointed out that legendary director Satyajit Ray was the first person in India to receive both the Bharat Ratna and an Oscar. No other artist has received both of these prestigious awards so far. Shatrughan added that actor Shoumitra Chatterjee has also received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award before Mithun Chakraborty. Now that Mithun is receiving the same honour from Bengal, Shatrughan feels proud and happy.
For those not aware, Mithun Chakraborty and Shatrughan Sinha have worked together in numerous hit projects including, Humse Na Takrana, Kahani Kismat Ki, Sagar Sangam, Hiraasat, Taqdeer and Sharara, among others.
