Four films that speak about the conflict-hit Palestine have been reportedly selected for screening at the 16th edition of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK). The section is named ‘An Ode to Resilience: Tales from Palestine.’
This section will feature short films and documentaries speaking about the stories of the war-torn nation and the conditions of the people living there. The films that are set to be featured are Bye Bye Tiberias, Heavy Metal, the Roller, the Life, the Fight and Palestine Islands.
The film Palestine Islands, directed by Nour Ben Salem and Julien Menanteau, narrates the story of a 12-year-old girl named Maha. The child stayed in the Balata refugee camp along with her blind grandfather. When her grandfather falls sick he somehow makes him believe that the orders have fallen and it is possible to return to his native land. The story tells about the struggle of the people who are the citizens of the war-torn country.
Another documentary that is set to be screened is Bye Bye Tiberias. The documentary is directed by Lina Soualem. With several exclusive videos and pieces of the country, this documentary tells the story of four generations of Palestinian women. Famous actress Hiam Abbass left the country to pursue acting. After around 30 years she returns to her homeland to learn about the struggle made by the women of her family living in the country. In the documentary, she speaks about the condition of the people staying in Palestine.
Another film that is set to be showcased in the IDSFFK 2024 is Heavy Metal. It is directed by Timo Bruun and Edward Knowles. The story of the film follows the lives and dreams of some young Palestinian girls who dream of taking part in weightlifting competitions. The story speaks about their struggle at the refugee camps while they dream of reaching new heights.
The fourth documentary story that is set to be screened is The Roller, the Life, the Fight. This documentary is directed by Hazem Alqaddi and Elettra Bisogno. This speaks about the story of Hazem who arrives in Belgium following a painful journey from Gaza. In the documentary, the directory shows the struggle of the refugees who manage to migrate to other countries. As per reports, the documentary is based on the life of the filmmakers themselves.
