Apple is calling this button the "Capture Button" internally, but it continues to be unclear what exactly it will be used for.

After bringing the new action button to the latest iPhone 15 series, Apple is now reportedly planning to add an extra button in the upcoming iPhone 16 models, which is expected to launch in September 2024.

The upcoming iPhone 16 models may be equipped with an extra button, according to Weibo leaker Instant Digital, who has shared accurate details on Apple’s plans in the past, MacRumors reported.

As per the report, Apple is calling this button the “Capture Button" internally, but it continues to be unclear what exactly it will be used for. The button will be located under the power button on the right side of the device, and it will be a capacitive button rather than a standard button.

MacRumors sources have indicated that the new button is set to be introduced on all ‌iPhone 16‌ models, including the base ‌iPhone 16‌ and ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus models.

The report also revealed that Instant Digital claimed that there is a high chance of getting an additional button and the Cupertino-based tech giant is also planning to relocate the mmWave antenna to the left of the device instead of the right to accommodate the change.

Additionally, the rumored ‌iPhone 16‌ Pro Action Button is expected to have a flush design, with Apple planning to shift to solid-state technology for this button, departing from the current standard button design.

While modifications are anticipated for the Action Button, there are no reported changes expected for the volume keys and power keys at the moment. These buttons are not solid-state, but Apple’s intentions could evolve, the report said.

Another report in the past revealed that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will be equipped with Qualcomm’s latest cellular modem, providing faster and better 5G connectivity.

As per the technology analyst Jeff Pu, the Pro model in 2024 will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem. However, the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to retain the Snapdragon X70 modem used for the entire iPhone 15 lineup.
