Following the revolt by over 90 MLAs in Rajasthan, CM Ashok Gehlot, who was considered the front-runner in Congress president poll race, is no longer in the running. Sources said the Congress top leadership is not keen on him filing the nomination.
After breaking a five-decade-long association with the Congress Party, Ghulam Nabi Azad launched his new party and today named it – Democratic Azad Party. He resigned from the Congress party on August 26th after he shared a letter slamming the Congress top leadership led by Rahul Gandhi and attributed him for destroying the grand old party.
Meanwhile, trouble brews in Congress-ruled Rajasthan once again over the Chief Minister post in the state. It is Team Gehlot vs Team Pilot all over again as the two camps try to make their voice heard about who they want as the Chief Minister. Several midnight meetings were held by senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Marken. All this as Ashok Gehlot prepares to contest polls for the Congress President post and Sachin Pilot looks to get the much-awaited promotion as the Chief Minister.
Rajasthan Minister Mahesh Joshi said, “All MLAs has faith in our interim president Sonia Gandhi. We’ve kept our point and expect that our demands will be considered when the final decision is taken by the high command. We want the party to take care of people who’ve been loyal to Congress.”
Meanwhile, Relatives of the 19-year-old receptionist allegedly murdered by a BJP leader’s son cremated her Sunday and protesters lifted an eight-hour blockade of a key highway after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assured justice. The victim’s family had initially refused to perform her last rites until they received the final post-mortem report. A preliminary report of an autopsy conducted at AIIMS, Rishikesh, said she died of drowning but there were antemortem injuries (injuries before death) on her body.
