Elections 2023 Update: T Raja to Contest in T'gana After BJP Lifts Suspension; List of 52 Candidates Out
BJP's list of 52 candidates for Telangana also included 14 candidates from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday released its list of 52 candidates including 3 MPs for the Telangana assembly polls. The party also revoked the suspension of Telangana MLA T Raja, who was suspended in August last year for his derogatory comments against Prophet Mohammed triggering massive outrage in Hyderabad.

On Saturday, BJP released its fifth list of 92 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, scheduled to take place next month. The list has dropped sitting Indore-3 MLA, Akash Vijaywargiya. However, the party has fielded 12 women in for the polls.

A total of 29 MLAs including OPS Bhadoriya, Yashodhara Scindia, and Gaurishankar Bisen have been dropped, while the 12 women candidates fielded include former state ministers Maya Singh and Archana Chitnis.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the celebrations of 125th foundation day of the Scindia School in MP’s Gwalior. He laid the foundation stone of a multipurpose sports complex in the school and also presented its annual awards to the top achievers and distinguished alumni.

The Scindia School was established in 1897 by the then Gwalior royalty and is located atop the historic Gwalior fort. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia — the scion of the erstwhile royalty — was seen dancing on the stage with students and other members amid the celebrations.

  • The BJP on Sunday released its list of 52 candidates for the Telangana assembly polls. The list included 3 MPs — Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Dharmapuri Arvind and Soyam Bapu Rao.
  • The BJP has revoked the suspension of Telangana MLA T Raja Singh ahead of the assembly polls scheduled to take place on November 30. Singh was suspended in August 2022 for his alleged derogatory comments against Prophet Mohammad.
  • All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Saturday fielded three candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly election. Party chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that more names will be announced in consultation with its state leadership.
  • The process of filing nomination forms for the second phase of Chhattisgarh assembly elections began on Saturday with the issuance of notification, the Chief Electoral Officer said. Five candidates from Premnagarm Rajgarh, Marwahi, Bilaigarh and Rajim constituencies filed their nominations.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attended the celebrations of the 125th foundation day of the Scindia School in MP’s Gwalior. The erstwhile royalty of the school and the state, Union Civil Aviaion Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was also seen taking part in the celebrations and dancing along with students and members on the stage.

The party also appointed its AICC observers for media preparations with former MP Ajoy Kumar in Telangana, party leader Supriya Shrinate for Madhya Pradesh and deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari in Chhattisgarh.
  • The BJP on Saturday released its second list of 83 candidates for the Rajasthan assembly polls, fielding former chief minister Vasundhara Raje from her traditional Jhalrapatan seat. The party also fielded Narpat Singh Rajvi from Chittorgarh.
  • Congress is yet to declare majority of its seats as the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) will meet on Sunday to finalise more names. The assembly polls for Rajasthan will be held on November 25.
  • The Congress released its first list of 33 candidates for the Rajasthan assembly elections. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has been fielded from Sardarpura while former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot will be contesting from Tonk.
  • Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also released its third list of candidates for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections.
  • Gujarat has tightened security along its borders with Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to maintain law and order in view of the assembly elections scheduled to take place in the two states next month. As many as 48 interstate checkposts have been set up across the state to keep a check on any kind of antisocial elements as well as illegal weapons, drugs, fake currency, etc.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit poll-bound Mizoram on October 30 to campaign for the BJP candidates ahead of the upcoming elections in the state. BJP President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will also join the campaign trail for the November 7 elections.
  • Rahul Gandhi concluded his three-day tour in Telangana claiming that those (BJP leaders) who used to swagger around earlier are now queuing up to join the Congress party.
  • BRS President and Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao expressed confidence that his party would emerge victorious in the upcoming assembly elections, securing between 95 and 105 seats in the 119-member house.
  • BJP President JP Nadda attended the meeting of the BJP Central Election Committee on Telangana elections at the party HQ in New Delhi on Friday.
