The Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on Monday will mark the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Several events across the nation have been planned to celebrate the day.

Every year on October 2, the nation marks the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi). Gandhi, being a forerunner of non-violence and truth, founded the Satyagraha and Ahimsa movement during the Indian liberation struggle. As the Father of the Nation, he spearheaded India’s independence struggle alongside many other national leaders in opposition to British rule in India.

This day also marks the birth anniversary of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who is known for his role in leading India to victory in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and for his slogan “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” (Victory to the Soldier, Victory to the Farmer).

PM Modi has reached Rajghat to offer prayers and flowers for marking Mahatma Gandhi’s 154th birth anniversary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate several developmental projects in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, including railway and housing projects.

In Madhya Pradesh, the prime minister will launch a bunch of projects, including the Rs 11, 895 crore Delhi-Vadodara Expressway. He will also lay the foundation stone for five different road projects worth over Rs 1,880 crore, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

Sushil Anand Shukla, communication head of the state’s Congress unit, in a statement said during the march — on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi — the party will also reach out to people and expose BJP, alleging that it “cheated” people of the state during its 15-year-rule.

The Uttar Pradesh government said that it will conduct the ‘Har Ghar Solar Abhiyan’ in Lucknow and Varanasi on Monday to encourage the use of solar energy among people. ‘

The camp — organised on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti — aims to promote the use of solar energy by the residents of the state, an official statement said.

The statement noted that it is a step towards reaching the state’s target set under the Solar Energy Policy 2022 of Uttar Pradesh and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), which aims to achieve 6,000 megawatts of solar rooftop plant installations in residential and commercial facilities.

Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal said that all the district hopsitals in Punjab will be renovated.

A massice cleanliness drive across Kerala on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti — with a participation of over 2.5 million people — will take place as part of the ‘Malinya Muktham Nava Keralam’ campaign.

The Local Self-Government Department (LSGD) said that the campaign will cover every nook and cranny of the state including urban and rural stretches, adding that at least 200 people from all walks of life from each ward of every local body will also join this drive.

– BJP to Begin ‘Jan Sampark Padayatra’ From Today

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has said that the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will launch a ‘Jan Sampark Padayatra’ from October 2-11 to highlight the state government’s welfare programmes among people.

Patnaik — in an open letter to all the party functionaries — said the padayatra’ will cover every nook and corner of the state. BJD vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra said that party workers and leaders will also attend training camps in all the assembly constituencies. District presidents, observers and other senior leaders will monitor the camps.
