In what comes as a shocking development, hardly 5,000 people turned up for the ENG vs NZ grand ICC ODI World Cup opener clash at 2 PM. This happened at a stadium which has the capacity of hosting 1,30,000 people. What can be the reason for this? No one really knows! Tickets were released just a month before the World Cup started. Also, the schedule was changed as BCCI failed to foresee the clashing of festival dates. To worsen things, a poor ticketing system also cost the two powerful boards – BCCI and ICC. The consequence was that there were not many people at the opening match of the much awaited ICC ODI World Cup tournament.

Many took to social media and expressed their displeasure over the same. At the top were Pakistanis who trolled India over the empty stadium. “Disappointing to see the World Cup opening in front of just a few hundred spectators in Ahmedabad. Very disappointing,” wrote an ‘X’ user. Many people also put up pictures making comparisons.
