Sanjay Singh News Updates: Dramatic scenes were seen during AAP’s protest in Mumbai on Thursday as a scuffle broke out between the leaders and the police.

Barely 100 metres from the ED office, the policemen stopped AAP workers, infuriating them and leading to a clash. Many leaders were soon detained.

A similar protest is being held in front of the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in New Delhi. The agitations are against the arrest of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.

On the other hand, the BJP MPs, MLAs and senior leaders offered their prayers at Rajghat, a memorial complex dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, to “end the corrupt regime in Delhi”.

The fresh AAP vs BJP and the protests come a day after AAP leader Sanjay Singh was arrested by ED in connection with its money laundering probe linked to the 2021-22 Delhi Excise policy case.

The developments came as a jolt to Delhi’s ruling party after its third top leader was held by a central agency in over a year.

The arrest of 51-year-old Singh, who became the second high profile leader of the Aam Aadmi Party to be nabbed in the case relating to the now scrapped Excise policy after former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, sparked a political slugfest between the Arvind Kejriwal-led party and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Delhi minister Satyendar Jain was arrested by the ED on May 30, 2022 in a separate money laundering case.

Sanjay Singh’s Arrest in Points

• A protest of AAP workers in Chandigarh turned unruly after the leaders breached barricades, resulting in water cannons being used by the police.

• Union minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday said the deputy chief minister of Delhi and others have landed up in jail in connection with an excise policy case and the turn of its “kingpin”, who is still out, will also come. Thakur targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, claiming that those who were elected to power by raising the slogan of “India against corruption” have now been found steeped in corruption.

• Singh is expected to be produced before a local court in Delhi on Thursday where the ED will seek his custodial interrogation.

• Singh’s arrest came a day after a Delhi court had allowed Raghav Magunta, son of YSR Congress Party Lok Sabha MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, and Delhi-based businessman Dinesh Arora to turn approver in the money laundering case connected to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

• Several members of the opposition bloc INDIA rallied behind Singh, with Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar saying the arrest will further strengthen the new alliance that was formed to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

• CM Kejriwal, along with party leaders, including Somnath Bharti, Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, visited Singh’s residence after his arrest.

• Speaking to reporters afterwards, he asserted that the AAP is “a hardcore honest party”. “We all know that the path of honesty is tough. If we become dishonest like them, all our problems will end. We are hardcore honest and that is why these problems are arising,” Kejriwal said.

• Attacking the BJP-led central government, Kejriwal said more than 1,000 raids have been carried out as part of the investigation in the excise policy case but not a penny of ill-gotten wealth has been found.
