After his stint as the head coach of the Australian Cricket Team, former cricketer and now coach, Justin Langer now is taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he is now with the Lucknow SuperGiants.
Langer revealed the story behind his appointment as the head coach of the franchise. He revealed, “I received a text message asking if I was interested in the coaching in the IPL. It was from Vinay telling me that the owner Sanjiv was in London at the same time and would I be interested in having a coffee with him.”

Thinking he had nothing to lose after reports suggesting that Langer chose to quit his role as the head coach of Australia where the report suggested that Langer did not have the support of several players and support staff members.

He then revealed the conversation with the boss, Sanjiv Goenka. Langer said,” He is a really good salesman the boss, because the last thing he said to be was you know, Justin, you’ve had a great playing career, you’ve had a very very good coaching career but you can’t consider yourself a great coach until you’ve won the IPL.”
Langer was excited at the thought of coming to the IPL. The LSG Head coach then went on to say,” The IPL is like the Olympic Games. It’s so big. Every game is a spectacle and it’s so well received and it’s so well supported, not just at the stadium but throughout India and the world.”

The newly appointed head coach will now look to bring his game into play as he will aim to get LSG to their maiden IPL title. The franchise has had a decent start so far having finished in the top four in the two seasons they have played in but lacked the cutting edge to make it past the semi-finals.
With KL Rahul looking better than ever, reinvigorated after his time out due to injury and with talents like Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran to add to the side, LSG could become the force they have desired to be under the coaching of Langer.
